Stationery and Psychology
I often think if I didn’t sell stationery, I could be a therapist. When I sit across from a client, I need to size up a situation. I am usually meeting new people when they are about to experience a major life change, whether it is getting married, turning 50, or having a baby. These passages are often stressful times for people, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.
I listen, I watch, and I process:
The bride’s mom is a traditionalist, but the bride has a goth edge, what do I do?
This bat mitzvah girl has mommy issues, stand down and keep the peace!
This guy needs someone to tell him what he likes or he will be here five hours.
Juggling conflicting personalities, helping people make decisions, and adding a bit of style or flair to a printing project is all rather psychological. If my patient, I mean customer, walks away satisfied and happy, it’s a good day at B and K!
