Reasons to send holiday cards in 2020

2020 is a year that will be very hard to forget.

The Corona Virus pandemic affected our lives in every capacity.

The actual virus took its toll on the elderly, the infirm and the general population.

Our economy faltered, jobs were lost and businesses closed.

We were sheltered in place, social distanced and had to cover our faces and wash our hands repeatedly. We could not travel, were subject to quarantine rules within our own county, and we lost many forms of social entertainment and culture for an extended period of time.

Perhaps 2020 will not be a year that we remember with fondness and reverence, but we believe that it is now more important than ever to send good wishes to friends, family and business acquaintances.  Here is why:

  1. Since travel has been curtailed, it has been near impossible to see family and friends living far away. A photo card is a wonderful way of “visiting” when face to face contact is not easy.
  2. The personal service sector has been crushed. Hair dressers, manicurists, massage therapists and even some medical professionals have felt the sting of being deemed “nonessential.” There is no better way of saying “Hey, remember me. I am still here and waiting for your return!”
  3. Business professionals, such as real estate agents and financial advisors, have always used holiday cards as a way of keeping in touch with clients. Now more than ever these professionals should be reaching out to their clientele.
  4. Babies have been born during the pandemic. Couples have gotten engaged. Marriages, albeit in quiet ceremonies, took place. These are exactly the kinds of life affirming announcements that can be part of a message on a holiday card, keeping friends and family informed.
  5. People who are looking for jobs, or even starting a new position will certainly want to reach out to contacts to stay in the loop. Making your situation and location known will only help you to establish yourself and stay relevant.

And the best reason:

  1. People are craving connection.
Having been deprived of social contact has made us feel alienated.

A beautiful card with an uplifting sentiment is a way of spreading joy and closeness.
