Groomzillas

A very strange phenomenon is characterizing this year’s wedding season; the bridezillas of the past are being upstaged by the grooms. I started noticing it here and there, and then it hit full force.

“Do you have a deeper blue ink?”

“I will email you the font I found when I get home.”

“Take out the ‘u’ in honour, it is antiquated!”

“My mother would like her first name on the invitation.”

“Please move up the rsvp date, I have a B list of work people.”

“I think we need to come back, I am not ready to commit to this invitation.”

The grooms are stealing the show, throwing little tantrums and making syntactical demands. They are no longer just present to nod, and say “yes dear”. They have opinions about the wedding invitation, and they are not shy about sharing them. They are concerned about style, pricing, and color. If no one is listening to them, they get moody and start sulking, and even throw hissy fits.

I have been writing up invitation orders for decades, and this is something new. The grooms are demanding to be heard, to be cajoled and romanced the way that the wedding industry has always catered to brides. A savvy stationer must now take the groom more seriously, and consider him as an equal party during the invitation process. Hail to the groom!
